We Have Time
29. Mai – 19. Juli 2009

Kunstverein + Lichthaus Arnsberg present the exhibition "We have time" by Indonesian artist Yudi Noor. This is the second exhibition this year at the Lichthaus of the Wedinghausen Monastery and the beginning of a series of projects dedicated to young contemporary art. The series aims to promote encounters and dialogue with art, music and literature, to develop new experimental concepts and projects that involve and inspire the public, and to generate new impulses for the city of Arnsberg.

"We have time" is an invitation to leave the hectic pace of everyday life behind. Time is relative and is always there for us, we just have to learn to deal with it harmoniously. The exhibition leads us to an artistic position that gives us an insight into a different philosophy and world view.

In the beginning was the journey, the journey to a new world, as a process of world experience and self-discovery. What counts is the journey, and this leads to people and ideals that change Yudi Noor's life. Baptised as a Muslim but brought up as a Buddhist, Noor has been living and working in Europe for years, with the light of a universal truth at the centre of his artistic work.

The starting point for this exhibition is the book "Der Weltensammler" by Ilija Trojanow. It takes us from England to Asia and Africa, through Hinduism and Islam, and shows us why the West has understood so little of the secrets of this other world to this day. The desired dialogue between cultures and religions often remains a utopia that we cannot achieve, but must not give up on either.

At Lichthaus Arnsberg, Yudi Noor presents an installation that explores the theme of travelling as an experience and transition to oneself. A boat, a floating light installation and a glass collage connect heaven, man and earth in the search for harmony with nature. "We have time" looks upwards, reassuring and challenging, as each of us has our journeys, encounters and longings.

The exhibition is organised by Kulturbüro Arnsberg in cooperation with Kunstverein Arnsberg, where further works by Yudi Noor can be seen.
