The Kunstverein Arnsberg is pleased to present the exhibition of the Spanish artist Ignacio Uriarte not only "On Paper":

The title itself plays with the ambiguity of the term and is to be understood correctly in both readings. These are works on paper. But they are also works that sharpen our view of everyday encounters not only "on paper" but also in reality, just as we do with a pencil.

Uriarte's biography has been shaped by his business studies and office work, which he quit one day to devote himself exclusively to his passion - art. However, he retains his specialist knowledge and uses it to develop an artistic language that stems from the office and business world. His protagonists are often a sheet of paper, a ballpoint pen, two clips, which together free themselves from their trivial function to give us a new working day full of excitement.

Functionality and liberation are important aspects of Uriarte's artistic practice. The creative potential concealed by an office job seems unlimited in his work and attempts to seduce the visitor. The power of his work lies above all in the imagination of the visitor, who can look through his drawers at home with new eyes after the exhibition. After all, they are full of possibilities and life.

Ignacio Uriarte was born in Krefeld in 1972 and lives in Berlin. After studying economics in Madrid, he completed a diploma in audiovisual art in Guadalajara, Mexico. His last solo shows were shown in MUSAC, Leon (2008), CGAC, Santiago de Compostela (2008), Casa Encendida, Madrid (2008). "On Paper" is Uriarte's first institutional solo exhibition in Germany.
