Yorgos Sapountzis *1976 in Athens, Greece, lives in Berlin

Yorgos Sapountzis studied at the Athens University of Fine Arts under George Lappas and at the Berlin University of the Arts under Rebecca Horn. His multimedia works deal with both public and private space, often taking public monuments and everyday images as a starting point - objects that represent an aspect of collective and personal memory. His works focus on sculptural installations with materials such as aluminum sheets and rods, colorful fabric, pens, ribbons and adhesive tape. From his daily encounters with the materials and objects he encounters on his routes, he reconstructs the scenography of a city in his works. Buildings, machines, bodies - they all generate electricity and warmth; only flowing memories come to benefit his personal history.
