Julian Charrière
Die Welt ist mittelgroß
11. April – 3. Juni 2014
Kunstverein Arnsberg is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Julian Charrière.
‘The world is medium-sized’ claims Julian Charrière at the Kunstverein Arnsberg, where pieces from 195 countries around the world come together. The exhibition takes us to faraway places and longing landscapes with current works from the Alps and Arnsberg to Addis Ababa. Charrière's poetic gaze seeks freedom and vastness in often epic dimensions, which echoes Land Art and Romanticism and places the artist in surreal situations. For the young Swiss artist, ‘works are also to be understood as processes that are constantly recreated by their surroundings. Only when the usual points of reference are missing do the relationships become blurred’ (Charrière).

Julian Charrière (*1987), Andreas Greiner (*1979) and Julius von Bismarck (*1983) produce new works on site, which can be seen at the Kunstverein, the Lichthaus and on Neumarkt. The interlinking of the positions is based on shared interests in nature, physics and technology, which inspire them to create various process-orientated works and experiments. The simultaneous presentation of the three artists reveals an artistic genre based on the dialogue between man and nature. This results in actions, performances, sculptures and inventions of all kinds, which create unusual scenarios with ideas and humour.
Charrière, Bismarck and Greiner are graduates of the Institute for Spatial Experiments at the Berlin University of the Arts. In Arnsberg, we know the artists from the exhibition series ‘Public Abstraction Private Construction’ and from the projects ‘Some Pigeons are more equal than others’ by Julian Charrière and Julius von Bismark (2013) and ‘Dominions (Arnsberg/Neheim/Hüsten)’ by Julian Charrière and Andres Greiner (2012).
